Pharaoh gave Joseph lots of good things.

Joseph married Asenath.  He was thirty years old.

The next seven years were good years.

Joseph stored lots of food.

Joseph and Asenath had two sons.

They were called Manasseh and Ephraim.

Joseph thanked God.  God blessed Joseph.

Then the seven good years ended.

There were seven bad years.

But there was plenty of food.

Joseph had stored it up.

He was in charge of all the food stores.

People from other countries came to buy food.

Jacob sent Joseph’s brothers to buy food in Egypt.

He kept Benjamin at home.  He wanted to keep him safe.

Joseph’s brothers did not know who he was.

But Joseph knew who they were.

He pretended he did not know them.

He said, “You are spies.”

The ten brothers said they were honest men,

They had a father and brother at home in Canaan.

Joseph said, “Bring your other brother to me.

Then I will believe you.”

He put them in prison for three days.

The brothers thought they were being punished.

Then Joseph sent them home.

But he made Simeon stay in Egypt.

Joseph put money in their sacks.

That night they found it.  They were afraid.

The brothers went home.

They told Jacob what had happened.

Jacob said, “You have taken Joseph and Simeon.

Now you want to take Benjamin from me.

If Benjamin is hurt I will be very sad and die.”

Reuben promised to look after Benjamin.
