Jesus meets Matthew
An EasyEnglish Story Unit (AEE) from Matthew's Good News
Joyce Ferrie
Jesus saw a man working in his office.
The man's name was Matthew.
He was a tax collector.
The people did not like tax collectors.
They worked for the Romans who were their enemies.
Sometimes they cheated the people.
Jesus said to Matthew, "Follow me."
Matthew left his office and went with Jesus.
They went to Matthew's house for dinner.
Some people asked why Jesus went to dinner with bad people like tax collectors.
Jesus said, "I have not come to call people who think they are good.
I have come to ask sinners to come to me."

Matthew 9:9-12.
