Easy English definition for 'ark':

ark ~ (A) ~ a big boat that Noah built; or a box that someone has made out of wood.

ark ~ (A) ~ a box with things important to the Jews in it.

ark ~ (B) ~ a large boat such as the one that Noah built; a wooden box.

ark ~ (B) ~ the ark of the Lord or the ark of God; the Bible also calls it the ark of the Covenant (or agreement). It was a wooden box with gold all over the outside and inside. It had two gold cherubim (angels ) on the top (see Exodus 25:10-22). The Israelites kept the ark in the house of the Lord and only the priest could see it. Sometimes God appeared on the ark and spoke to the priest.
