scribe ~ (B) ~ a teacher of the law.
scribe ~ (B) ~ A man whose job was to copy books by hand. A Jewish scribe's most important task was to copy the Bible, especially the first 5 books. These books contain God's law, which he gave to the Israelites by Moses. So the scribes became teachers of the law. And the scribes even acted as judges.
