Easy English definition for 'seal':

seal ~ (B) ~ a sign that something is genuine.

seal ~ (B) ~ After people wrote a letter, they would roll the paper. Then they would heat a substance called wax. They would pour the liquid wax onto the edge of the letter. They might press a picture into the wax. This picture would be a like a signature. It would show who sent the letter. When the wax cooled, it would become solid. The wax was called the seal. To open the letter, someone would need to break the seal. So the seal proved who sent the letter. And the seal proved that nobody else had read the letter.
